Forty-four athletes representing the 2020 Western Suns Ocean/Beach Interstate and Youth Pathway Cup Teams gathered at Trigg Island SLSC on Saturday for the official team launch and presentation of their uniforms.
In congratulating team members on their selection, Surf Life Saving WA board member Garry Williams wished the team luck, to learn from their experience and to be proud to compete for WA.
Two-time Olympian and Western Suns Ocean/Beach Interstate Team Manager, Steve Bird, presented the Youth Pathway Cup team with their uniforms and shared about his experiences in representing Australia at the London and Rio Olympic games in kayaking with the athletes.
Former WA state team athlete, coach and recent inductee to the SLSWA Sporting Hall of Fame, Mark Finucane, was also on hand to give advice to the athletes and to present the Western Suns Ocean/Beach Interstate Team members with their bag and uniform.
The presentation also included the announcement of team captains Dan & Ceris Humble, who, with 25 years of state team representation between them, will be leading the charge as the team contests the Interstate Championships at Alexandra Headlands later this month.
The Youth Pathway Cup will be held in conjunction with the SLSA Interstate Championships at Alexandra Headlands on the 24th January 2020.

As a part of the Navy Surf Boat Series at Scarboro on Sunday 12 January, the 2020 Western Suns Surf Boat Rowers Team were presented with their state team uniforms.
No stranger to winning surf boat titles, North Cottesloe J Crew member Derek Knox presented the Western Suns Surf Rowers team with their uniforms. The North Cottesloe J Crew is one of only four clubs in 100 years of surf life saving to win the national open surf boat title on multiple occasions, with the “J Crew” the only team to win four titles back-to-back.
The Western Suns Surf Rowers Interstate team, comprising representatives from North Cottesloe, City of Perth and Scarboro Surf Life Saving Clubs, will head to Mollymook, NSW to contest the SLSA Surf Boat Interstate Championships on the 14th February 2020.

A special thank you to Engine Swim, the official apparel partner of the Western Suns. We wish all of our athletes the best of luck in their upcoming competition.
