Near perfect conditions set the scene for round 2 of the Super Surf Teams League held in Surfers Paradise, QLD this morning.

Coming into round 2 sitting in 2nd position, WA’s Scarborough Sunsets were on a mission to not lose ground, despite some team changes which included round 1 winners Jackson Symonds and Dan Humble being unavailable.

With competition fierce, they were able to cement their top of the field position finishing the day tied for 4th. This now sees the Sunsets tied for 2nd in the series, alongside the QLD Country Canecutters and Sunshine Coast Marlins.

It was Charlie Rigby who stepped up for the Scarborough Sunsets in the beach events, taking the win in the Male Beach Sprint and 5th in the beach flags, while the Sunsets once again claimed victory in the Mixed Ski Relay, though this time it was Wes Gould who paired up with Jaime Roberts. Roberts then went on to take 2nd in the Female Surf Ski race while Gould took 4th in the male event.

The Male Board Race saw Margaret River Waves’ Matt Collis take 3rd, up from his 11th place finish in round 1, while round 1 Male Surf Race winner Will Savage (Broome Pearlers), with a tight sprint to the line, came home in 4th ahead of Sunsets ’Jake Smith in 6th.

In an equally tight sprint for the line, the female field saw the Sunsets’ Jade Mickle take 4th with Margarete River Waves’ Soraya Lee close on her heels in 5th.

At the close of Round 2 the series sees the Northern Beaches Rays in the overall lead with the Canecutters, Sunsets, and the Marlins all sitting in equal second.

Round two of the Super Surf Teams League will be broadcast on Fox Sports on Sunday 22 December from 2pm AEDT.

The Super Surf Teams League now heads to North Cronulla Beach for the third and final round on January 15, 2020.
