While once again our WA surf sports season delivered some fantastic competition and results, the impact of COVID was still felt, limiting the ability to host certain events, including those for the Western Suns state team selections.
Coupled with the uncertainty around COVID restrictions and the ability for teams to travel, a decision was made that no Western Suns teams would be selected for the 2021/22 season.
These circumstances didn’t dampen the competitiveness of our top athletes, whose consistent efforts throughout the season saw them dominate the standings at the recent 2022 SunSmart WA Surf Life Saving Championships.
The desire to recognise the outstanding performances of these individuals, led to the decision to name a WA All Stars team, recognising the achievements of our elite Open athletes based on performances at the Championships.
With many familiar names in the mix, including 2021 Bernie Kelly Medallist Will Savage from Trigg Island, and 16-year old beach athlete & Aussies silver medallist Joshua Neervoort from North Cottesloe, congratulations to the following athletes who have been named in the 2022 WA All Stars.
We look forward to celebrating their selection at the upcoming SLSWA Awards of Excellence on 25 June.
