With the recent announcement of the new Nutri-Grain IronMan and IronWoman Series, Surf Life Saving WA (SLSWA) has announced it will provide sponsorship to any WA athlete that qualifies for the series.

SLSWA’s High Performance Officer Andrew Mosel said they had been working closely with Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA) to create the Development Pathway Wild Card, which aims to provide a pathway for athletes outside of Queensland and New South Wales to compete in this iconic national series.

“Having a West Australian based athlete make the elite series would shine a spotlight on the elite pathway for thousands of up and coming WA athletes”, said Mosel.

The Development Pathway Wild Card will be decided as part of the qualifying event to be held at Coolum, QLD on 7-8 September.

With the series racing set to take place in QLD and NSW, SLSWA’s athlete sponsorship would see it covering the costs of travel to all five rounds of the series, which kicks off on the 13 October with the iconic Coolangatta Gold.

The series will return on a bigger scale next summer, with SLSA securing a broadcast deal that will breathe new life into the series.

Coaches or athletes wanting further information should contact Andrew Mosel. Full criteria for the Development Pathway Wild Card can be found here.
