SLSA has announced a new look Elite Series which will feature the Nutri-Grain Ironman and Woman Series, plus a separate team-based Super Surf League Series.
The Nutri-Grain Ironman Series will be held over five rounds, with 20 of the best male and female athletes competing in traditional Iron racing format involving a ski, board, swim and run. The first round of the 2019/2020 Nutri-Grain Iron Series will kick off with the iconic endurance race, the Coolangatta Gold.
The Super Surf League Teams is a national team competition involving 16 x 8 person teams (4 males/4 females) invited through the state bodies to compete as a curtain raiser at the last 3 rounds of the Nutri-Grain Ironman Series. The Surf League will consist of individual events for males and females in the swim, run, board and ski plus a mixed taplin relay.
Nutri-Grain Ironman Series Events:
• Round 1 – Coolangatta Gold – 13 October 2019 – Coolangatta, QLD
• Round 2 – Nutri-Grain Series – 17 November 2019 – Burleigh Heads, QLD
• Round 3 – Nutri-Grain Series – 1 December 2019 – Bulli, NSW
• Round 4 – Nutri-Grain Series – 15 December 2019 – Surfers Paradise, QLD
• Round 5 – Nutri-Grain Series – 19 January 2020 – North Cronulla, NSW
Qualification Process:
The field for 2019/20 Nutri-Grain Iron Series will consist of the following:
• Top 12 from the 2018/19 Nutri-Grain Iron Series held during Ocean6 will be invited to compete.
• 6 spots from the trial at Coolum on the Sunshine Coast on 7 and 8 September 2019.
• 2 Wildcards.
Development Wild Card
1. 1 x Development Wild Card will be offered to a male and a female
2. Only available to a competitor who, competes for a Surf Life Saving club from either WA, SA, Vic, NT or Tas.
3. The athlete must compete in the trial at Coolum on the Sunshine Coast on 7 and 8 September 2019.
4. The athlete must qualify through to, and finish, the finals of the trial.
5. The athlete is the first placed finisher on the final point score of the trial outside the overall top 6 finishers.
6. In the event an athlete from a Surf Life Saving club from either WA, SA, Vic, NT or Tas qualifies for the Series, through finishing in the Top 6 finishers at the trial, a Development Wild Card will not be awarded for that gender.
