Surf Life Saving WA’s Western Suns enjoyed their strongest finish to date at the recent Australian Pool Rescue Championships, with the team bringing home an Australian record in one of the relay events, along with an overall third place finish in the Interstate Championship.
Held over the 4th – 6th August at the South Australian Aquatic and Leisure Centre, individual performances also saw a further three Australian records capture by team members in individual performances across the weekend.
The 24 strong squad of athletes from seven WA clubs brought home three first and four third place finishes along with their Australian record, capping off their most successful Pool Rescue Championship to date.
Unique to the Pool Rescue Championships is that individual events in the Open Championships also contributed points to the Western Suns.
Under fourteen athlete Tupou Chong Sue (Fremantle) coming away from the championships with three gold medals, including two Australian records, and one silver medal while the U15’s Harrison Hynes (Fremantle) claimed two gold including one Australian record on his journey to claiming two gold.

Jake earnt an impressive five individual gold of which four were personal best times , one individual silver, one individual bronze, two team silver and four team bronze medals.
Jake’s results helped contribute to Trigg Island’s success in the Open Division Club Point score Tally being WA’s top club and gaining 5th overall across Australia.
The Open competition saw a total of 16 gold medals earnt – congratulations also Madison Howe (City of Perth) and Callan Smith (Trigg Island) who joined Jake Smith, Harrison Hynes and Tupou Chong Sue in taking home individual gold medals.
