My Beach

Congratulations to those clubs and athletes who took on the 2020 SunSmart WA Surf Rescue Championships yesterday at Mullaloo Beach. The Surf Rescue championships comprise the Rescue & Resuscitation, Belt Race, and Rescue Tube Rescue events and it was fantastic to see some of our nippers from as young as U10’s coming down to take part in these historic and traditional surf life saving events.

The blue ribbon event, the Open Mixed 6-person R & R, saw teams from Sorrento, Scarboro and Mullaloo hit the beach, Scarboro taking the win by a very narrow margin ahead of reigning champions Sorrento, who have held the Foundation Presidents Cup, awarded to the senior Rescue & Resuscitation Champions, for the past 3 years.

Congratulations also to Sorrento who took home the Eric Hofmaster Memorial Trophy for Champion U15 R&R team, ahead of Mullaloo and Fremantle.

The Open Female Surf Belt Race saw defending champion Soraya Lee (Mullaloo) back atop the podium ahead of Ruby Warne (Trigg Island) & Sophie Lloyd (City of Perth) while in the male event it was North Cottesloe’s Tommaso D’Orsogna who took the win ahead of Trigg Island’s Will Savage in 2nd and a tied 3rd place finish for Josh Windsor (Trigg Island) and Reilly Kennedy (North Cottesloe).

Trigg Island dominated the Rescue Tube Rescue events picking up the win in both the Open Male and Female events.

Thank you to our surf sports partner Healthway, promoting the SunSmart message, and all the officials, referees and volunteers involved in running the event.
