PRIVATE Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting

Before you enrol

There are no formal entry requirements. You must be at least 14 years old and have a basic understanding of spoken and written English.

You must be able to perform at least two minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an adult and child manikin on the floor, and an infant manikin on a firm surface.

Online learning and the knowledge assessment must be completed before the practical session.

By enrolling, you acknowledge that you have read the SLSWA Learner Handbook, including fees, transfers, cancellations, venues and learner support.

What you will learn

• Recognising and responding to an emergency using DRSABCD
• CPR for adults, children and infants, including AED use
• Managing asthma, anaphylaxis and allergic reactions
• Managing choking, bleeding, burns, injuries and medical emergencies
• Child-specific conditions including fever, febrile convulsions, vomiting, diarrhoea and dehydration
• Incident reporting, review and communication with parents, carers and emergency services

Delivery and assessment

Delivery: Blended delivery. Complete online learning before attending the face-to-face practical session.

Assessment: Complete the online knowledge assessment and demonstrate first aid skills in practical scenarios, including CPR on adult, child and infant manikins and AED use.

Certification

On successful completion of all course and assessment requirements, you will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for:

• HLTAID012 – Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting
• HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid
• HLTAID010 – Provide Basic Emergency Life Support
• HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

The Code of Practice: First aid in the workplace recommends that CPR skills are refreshed annually and first aid skills are refreshed every three years.
