About This Course

This course teaches you how to respond to common first aid emergencies and provide care until medical help arrives.

Course Topics

You will learn about:

• First aid basics, emergency response and the DRSABCD action plan
• CPR for adults and infants, including use of an AED (defibrillator)
• Medical emergencies including asthma, choking, allergic reactions, heart attack, stroke, seizures and diabetes
• Injury management including bleeding, burns, fractures, sprains and spinal injuries
• Environmental emergencies including poisoning, bites/stings, heat illness, hypothermia and drowning
• Practical first aid scenarios and incident reporting

Assessment

Online Theory

You must complete an online theory assessment before the course date.

Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm.
Students who do not complete the online component may not be able to attend the course.

Practical Assessment

During the face-to-face session, you will:

• Demonstrate first aid skills
• Perform CPR on adult and infant manikins
• Perform at least 2 minutes of continuous CPR on an adult manikin on the floor
• Use an AED safely

Course Requirements

To complete this course, you should have:

• Basic spoken and written English skills
• A basic level of physical ability for CPR and practical activities

• HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid
