Course overview

Learn how to recognise and respond to an emergency, provide CPR and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) until medical help arrives.

Before you enrol

There are no formal entry requirements. You must be at least 14 years old and have a basic understanding of spoken and written English.

You must be able to perform at least two minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an adult manikin on the floor and an infant manikin on a firm surface.

What you will learn

• Recognising and responding to an emergency using DRSABCD
• Legal and workplace considerations
• CPR for adults, children and infants
• Safe AED use
• Recovery position, casualty monitoring and reassurance
• Incident reporting, review and rescuer wellbeing

Delivery and assessment

Delivery: 2 hours face-to-face plus online theory.

Assessment: Complete online theory before course date and demonstrate emergency-response skills, including CPR on adult and infant manikins and AED use.

Students who do not complete the online component may not be able to attend the course.

Certification

On successful completion of all course and assessment requirements, you will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for:

• HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

Your certificate will be emailed within a few days of successful course completion.

The Code of Practice: First aid in the workplace recommends that CPR skills are refreshed annually.
