HLTAID015 Provide Advanced Resuscitation and Oxygen Therapy

This course equips participants with the skills and knowledge required to use specialised oxygen equipment, bleed control equipment, airway management devices and automated external defibrillators in the provision of resuscitation.

PLEASE NOTE, HLTAID011 Provide First Aid is a pre-requisite for this course (evidence required). Please email a copy of your HLTAID011 Statement of Attainment with the Units of Competence listed to training@slswa.com.au if you have obtained your Statement of Attainment through another RTO.
Also note that the First Aid completed in your Surf Life Saving Bronze Medallion or the bridging First Aid course does not meet the requirements of the HLTAID011.

Course Content

  • Assess a casualty and apply appropriate first aid.
  • Check and maintain resuscitation, oxygen, and defibrillation equipment.
  • Manage airway (includes suction and use of oropharyngeal airways) and provide oxygen therapy.
  • Operate and restore defibrillation equipment.
  • Participation in simulated scenarios, incident reporting and review

Assessment

Delivery method: Face-to-Face and online learning. 7 hours in class session (excludes the online theory component time).
Knowledge assessment: before attending the course, learners will receive a link to complete a mandatory online pre-course assessment at their own pace, which includes a knowledge quiz. This assessment must be completed before the practical session unless there are extenuating circumstances. If so, learners must inform the Trainer and Assessor upon arrival.
Practical assessment: the practical session lasts approximately 7 hours and includes demonstrations, practice, and skills assessments, along with confirmation of the knowledge gained from the online pre-course learning. Candidates must apply appropriate first aid procedures, perform uninterrupted CPR for at least 2 minutes on an infant manikin on a firm surface and adult manikin on the floor, use an AED, and specialised oxygen therapy.

Certification

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for the following units of competency:
  • HLTAID015 – Provide advanced resuscitation and Oxygen Therapy
  • HLTAID009 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
SLSWA follows the ARC Guideline 10.1 Basic Life Support Training which recommends all those trained in CPR should refresh their CPR skills at least annually.
