How to enrol

Current financial members of Surf Life Saving WA affiliated Surf Life Saving Clubs should first view the available course dates below, then email the Training and Education Team with their SLSWA Member ID. Once your membership has been verified, we‘ll book you into your selected course.

Before you enrol

HLTAID011 Provide First Aid is a prerequisite for this course.

Before commencing, you must have successfully completed HLTAID011 Provide First Aid within the previous three years. If SLSWA cannot verify this through your training record, you will need to provide evidence of completion.

Please note: The first aid training completed as part of the Surf Life Saving Bronze Medallion or the Bronze Medallion First Aid Bridging Course does not meet the prerequisite requirement for HLTAID011 Provide First Aid.

You must be at least 14 years old, have a basic understanding of spoken and written English, and be able to perform at least two minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an adult manikin on the floor and an infant manikin on a firm surface.

Online learning and the knowledge assessment must be completed before the practical session.

Course overview

This course builds on first aid skills and prepares participants to use oxygen equipment, airway-management devices, suction and AEDs when providing advanced resuscitation.

What you will learn

  • Casualty assessment and advanced resuscitation decision-making
  • Checking and maintaining oxygen, suction and defibrillation equipment
  • Oxygen therapy, airway suction and use of oropharyngeal airways
  • CPR and AED use in advanced resuscitation scenarios
  • Managing life-threatening bleeding
  • Incident reporting, review and rescuer wellbeing

Delivery and assessment

Delivery: Blended delivery. Complete online learning before attending the face-to-face practical session.

Assessment: Complete the online knowledge assessment and demonstrate advanced resuscitation skills, including CPR, AED use, oxygen therapy, suction and airway management.

Certification

On successful completion of all course and assessment requirements, you will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for:
  • HLTAID015 – Provide Advanced Resuscitation and Oxygen Therapy
  • HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
The Code of Practice: First aid in the workplace recommends that CPR skills are refreshed annually.
