Western Suns Team close out a huge weekend in the pool, placing 4th at the 2022 Interstate Pool Rescue Championships, the first to be held since 2019.
Following three days of action in the pool, the team, comprised of only 6 female and 5 male athletes, performed exceptionally well claiming multiple Australian records and personal best times.
Callan Smith kicked off the medal haul for WA on Friday with a bronze in the Open Male 200m Obstacles, followed by gold and new Australian Record in the 4x50m Obstacle Relay in a team comprising his older brother Jake, Harrison Hynes & Kelton Rothnie.
Talking of the Smith brothers, Jake wrapped up a hugely successful weekend bringing home three individual gold including two Australian records in the Open Male 50m Manikin Carry (28.01) and the Open Male Manikin Tow (49.42), and a bronze in the 200m Super Lifesaver.
He also teamed up with his Western Suns & Trigg Island teammates to win two more gold in Australian record time in the 4x25m Manikin Carry Relay & the 4x50m Medley Relay.
Not to be outdone by his teammate, Harrison Hynes also pocketed two individual gold medals on top of his three Relay gold while U19 athlete Kelton Rothnie took one individual gold & three silver along with three relay gold competing with his club team, Trigg Island.
Our other U19 Western Suns member Phoebe Ashworth managed to bring home a full set with gold in the 50m with Fins, silver in the 100m Manikin Carry w Fins, and a bronze in an outstanding display of Pool Rescue swimming.
Young Gun Eleanor Flowers from Trigg Island also proved she’s one to watch, taking home two bronze in the U14 50m Freestyle with Fins and the 100m Manikin Tow with Fins.
Other Western Sun team members Zac Brown, Ivy Moore, Kate Rigoll, Lani Baxter and Jaimee Traeger all had an exceptional weekend representing WA, walking away with personal best times.
