The Community Surf Rescue Certificate provides the skills and knowledge to safely supervise, respond to emergencies and perform basic rescues in aquatic environments.
This certificate is recognised under Department of Education water safety guidelines and is widely accepted across the aquatic industry, including schools, surf programs and commercial operators.
Suitable for participants aged 13 years and over.

Course Content
- SLSA signals
- Risk assessment and hazard identification
- Identifying safe beach zones
- Basic first aid for aquatic environments
- Rescues techniques (tube and body/board rescues)
- 100m run/100m swim/100m run (5 minute time limit)
- 200m swim recognisable stroke (5 minute time limit)
- Theory assessment
Assessment
Assessment is completed through a combination of practical demonstrations and knowledge tasks.
This may include:
- Practical skills and rescue scenarios
- Observation and questioning
- Written theory assessment
Participants must demonstrate competence in all required skills and knowledge.
Certification
Upon successful completion, participants will receive the Community Surf Rescue Certificate, recognised under Department of Education water safety guidelines and across a range of aquatic supervision settings.
Certificates are typically issued within 10 working days of course completion. Same-day or temporary certificates are not provided.
Validity
Valid for one (1) year from the date of completion.
