The most recent weekend saw over 1000 of our members competing in Surf Sport events on beaches across the state, with action taking place on both the northernmost and southernmost beaches of the metro being used for the first time this season.

SunSmart Premiership Series: Nippers

Coogee Beach was the venue for the first interclub Nipper event for season. Last Sunday morning over 700 nine to twelve year olds were in attendance at Coogee competing in both ocean and beach events a month earlier than previous years. For some of these excited nippers it was their first ever interclub event.

Session One saw the U10’s and U12’s in the water while the U11’s and U13’s were on the beach. Water conditions were great for the first session and all events ran smoothly. By the time Session Two started the strong breeze started to come into play but most competitors handled the tougher conditions skilfully.

Overall there were fantastic skills on display and a great atmosphere with friendly competition taking place in all arenas. For a full list of results check click here.

Premiership Surf Rowers

Quinns Mindarie hosted the first Surf Rowers Competition for the season. This was a great opportunity for new crews to flex their muscles and gain a marker against the more experienced crew of last season. All crews had four rows in flat conditions with a slight easterly wind and half metre waves – perfect for the younger less experienced sweeps. The next Surf Rowers Carnival will be held at Mullaloo on Saturday 19th November. This will be the last Premiership Carnival for a while as the following four carnivals will contribute to the Navy Series points. Results from last Saturday:

  • A Men Final: North Cottesloe SLSC Team A
  • B Men Final: City of Perth SLSC Warewolves
  • Open Women Final : City of Perth SLSC City Sirens

SunSmart Premiership Series: Seniors

Having reduced the footprint of our Premiership Series events, North Cottesloe hosted their first major carnival in a few years and with 270 competitors coming out to compete on what felt like the first real warm weekend of the year, it would be a good test to the club and athletes alike. A small swell challenged many but with Premiership points and state team selection on the line the athletes all put their best foot forward. Competition was fierce and was great to watch as the warmer weather and surf sport really made it feel like spring had sprung.
