After a couple of false starts due to unfavourable weather conditions, the 2022 WA IRB Championships finally took place at Sorrento Beach last weekend.

Conditions were perfect for fast racing, and even with a reduced number of clubs competing, there were some outstanding races with several finishes too close to judge with the naked eye.

From the start of the day’s events, it was the powerhouse teams of Mullaloo and Scarboro that emerged as frontrunners in the fight for Champion Club honours, with Scarboro doing their best to stop Mullaloo from claiming their 6th consecutive title.

The other two competing clubs, Sorrento and Quinns Mindarie, had their own battle underway, and the future of their IRB racing looks to be very bright.

In one of the most exciting races, it was the Scarboro/Western Suns team of Jessica Cake, Hollie Sheils-Rudd and Thomas Horton who took the win in the Female Tube Rescue ahead of some very tough Mullaloo teams.

In the Male Tube Rescue, the Mullaloo D Team of Max Smith, Corey Bartle & Conan Millar took a surprise win over the Western Suns’ representatives from Scarboro.

After a see-sawing battle, it was Mullaloo who emerged victorious to claim their 6th straight Champion Club honours, ahead of Scarboro in 2nd, while Quinns-Mindarie rounded out the podium in 3rd.
