It was a petition from community members in 2001 that saw the humble beginnings of Coogee Beach Surf Life Saving Club; a Club who this year took out the Lavan Club of the Year title for their incredible work and vision for the future of surf lifesaving.

Coogee Beach have worked hard to ensure the club continuously strives to adapt, improve, and achieve the goals they set, with all members of the Club reaping the benefits.

Talking with Coogee Beach SLSC President Nick Neal, there is clearly one concept that is central to Coogee Beach SLSC, and that is FAMILY!

Check out our Q&A with Nick and learn a little more about what makes this Club tick!.

Q. How would you describe Coogee Beach SLSC in one word?
A. Family

Q. What do you think makes Coogee Beach SLSC special as a club?
A. Our members. We are a family made from the community.

A. We intend to continue implementing elements of our Strategic Plan to grow our involvement and inclusion into the community.

Q. What is the best thing about Coogee beach?

Q. Is there a particular person or group of people from the last season who stood out when it came to their surf lifesaving duties?
A. We had a dedicated group of 27 patrolling members who completed more than 50 volunteer patrol hours on the beach plus four members were inducted into 500 club which means they have completed 500+ hours of patrol during their time at our Club.

Q. What values do you think surf lifesaving teaches people?
A. Trust, teamwork, respect, friendship and leadership!

Q. What might you say to someone who is considering joining your Club?
A. Our Club has something for everyone, from people who love the beach to people who just love lending a hand on the BBQ. Come along and join our surf club family, have fun and see where things lead!
