Course overview

This course provides the skills to assess an electrical emergency, safely release a casualty from low-voltage electrical contact, provide first aid and secure the scene.

It is suitable for people who may be required to perform a rescue from a live low-voltage electrical panel as part of their work.

Course options

You can enrol in:
UETDRMP018 only if you have already completed HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation; or
UETDRMP018 and HLTAID009 combo course to complete both units as part of the same training program.

Before you enrol

Your enrolment requirements depend on the course option you choose.

UETDRMP018 Only

You must have previously completed HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. If Surf Life Saving WA cannot verify your qualification through your training record, you will need to provide evidence of completion.

UETDRMP018 + Provide CPR combo

No previous CPR qualification is required. You will complete HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation as part of the same training program. Competency in UETDRMP018 cannot be confirmed until you have successfully completed all HLTAID009 assessment requirements.

Additional requirements

You must:

  • be at least 14 years of age
  • have a basic understanding of spoken and written English
  • be physically able to use a rescue crook and move a casualty during a simulated rescue
  • if completing the combo course, be physically able to perform CPR on adult and infant manikins.

What you will learn

  • Identifying electrical hazards and applying risk controls
  • Locating the emergency isolation point and using rescue equipment
  • Applying safe approach distances and confirming the electrical situation
  • Releasing a casualty from low-voltage electrical contact
  • Removing the casualty safely and providing initial first aid
  • Securing the site, reporting the incident and participating in a review

Delivery & Assessment 

Delivery: Blended delivery. Complete the required online learning before attending the face-to-face practical session.

Assessment: Complete the required online knowledge assessment and demonstrate a simulated rescue from a live low-voltage electrical panel. Learners completing the combo course must also successfully complete all HLTAID009 assessment requirements before competency in UETDRMP018 can be awarded.
