This course provides the practical first aid skills needed to manage common emergencies in community and workplace settings, including CPR and AED use.
There are no formal entry requirements. You must be at least 14 years old and have a basic understanding of spoken and written English.
You must be able to perform at least two minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an adult manikin on the floor and an infant manikin on a firm surface.

There is currently no general law requiring workplaces to have an AED. However, AEDs are strongly recommended as part of workplace emergency preparedness and can significantly improve survival outcomes in cardiac arrest emergencies.
Successful participants receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for HLTAID011 Provide First Aid. While the qualification itself does not expire, first aid refresher training is commonly completed every 3 years. Many workplaces also require the CPR component (HLTAID009) to be refreshed annually.
Face-to-face courses are generally completed in approximately 6 hours, including theory and practical assessment activities. Blended delivery courses, with online learning completed beforehand, generally take approximately 4.5 hours face-to-face.
Surf Life Saving WA can deliver first aid training at your workplace, school, club or organisation at a suitable time and location. We also offer regular public first aid courses at selected Perth metropolitan training venues.
First aid training helps workers respond confidently in emergencies such as cardiac arrest, choking, breathing difficulties, allergic reactions and injuries while waiting for emergency services. Workplace first aid training can also support safer workplaces, faster emergency response and improved staff confidence.
