The WAIS Talent Search is based on a well-developed strategy of talent identification which pairs athletes with sports they are naturally suited. The process involves trained sports science professionals that perform a structured testing protocol on groups of participants. Those athletes who hit benchmarks are then invited to join talent development squads in their suited sport.
Open to athletes between 15 – 18 year of age, the program is focused on finding future elite athletes for Olympic sports and capitalise on the upcoming 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games to encourage participation in sport and a healthy lifestyle.
Testing protocol involves maximal efforts on an assault bike, vertical leap, strength testing and stationary cycling sprints. The testing can be strenuous, however is safe for students without underlying conditions.
