Air Crew

As Air Crew, I am responsible for working with the pilot and my fellow Air Crew or Rescue Crew to conduct scheduled surveillance patrols looking for and taking action in response to different types of coastal hazards. I am responsible for safely dispatching rescue equipment or a Rescue Crew from the helicopter in response to an incident. I am also involved in ensuring we are “rescue ready” at all times in the event of tasking.

I primarily work on the Metro Service.

How long have you been part of the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter Service?

I joined the service at the start of the 2021/22 season.

What inspired you to join the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter Service?

I have grown up within the surf life saving movement starting as a Nipper. Seeing the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter patrolling the coastline inspired me to strive for a role in the service.

What motivates you to work for the service and help the community?

I want to ensure the community has the opportunity to safely enjoy our stunning coastline every summer and have the confidence that the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter is keeping a watchful eye overhead.

Have you been involved in any interesting tasking/patrol situation?

I have been involved in a number of multi-agency taskings but the most unique experience I have had while being part of the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter Service is supporting Abalone Patrol. Abalone Patrol is a unique coastal safety service provided by SLSWA which requires Lifesavers, powercraft, drones and the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter to work seamlessly and watch over thousands of abalone fishers search out their catch during one hour fishing sessions.
