We are sad to advise that Surf Life Saving great James (Jim) Hatchett passed away last Friday, 8 June. The Surf Life Saving WA and Surf Life Saving Australia Life Member left an enviable legacy of service since he first joined the City of Perth Surf Life Saving Club in 1943. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.
Jim joined the City of Perth Surf Life Saving Club in October 1943, gaining his Bronze Medallion in 1944 and going on to fulfil a range of positions at both Club, as a member of City of Perth and Scarboro Surf Life Saving Clubs, and at a State level.
During the many decades of his involvement Jim served as Chief Patrol Officer; Deputy State Superintendent; State Selector; SLSWA Meritorious Awards Committee and Clubs Advisory Committee member; SLWA Finance Committee ; and SLSWA Deputy President, amongst other roles.
His service and dedication to the surf lifesaving movement over his lifetime was extraordinary and, accordingly he was awarded Surf Life Saving WA Life Membership in 1963 and Surf Life Saving Australia Life Membership in 1971.
