While most people in WA enjoyed the relaxing spring sunshine and Queen’s Birthday long weekend, Trigg Island’s Jake Smith was taking on the world’s best pool rescue athletes at the DLRG Cup in Warendorf, Germany.
The SLSWA Youth Athlete of the Year was named in the six-strong Australian Life Saving Team (ALT) German Cup squad and made WA proud, bringing home two bronze medals – one in the 50m with Fins and one in the 200m Obstacles.
Jake’s incredible performance in Germany comes after he sustained an ankle injury during his last stint as a member of the ALT at the Sanyo Cup in Japan only a few months ago.
The ALT picked up three gold, 11 silver and three bronze medals over the two days of intense individual competition, putting the ALT in a great position leading into the Lifesaving World Championships, which will be held in Adelaide later this year.
