Coogee Beach had an influx of eager and excited nippers on Sunday, as 300 of our youngest competitors took to the sand and water for the first SunSmart Little Nipper Carnival of the season.
The event kicked off at 7am with calm conditions, a mild top of 30 degrees for later in the day and a great atmosphere for the 15 clubs who took part, competing in the Board Race, Surf Race, Beach Sprints and Beach Flags.
The carnival was first introduced to the surf sports calendar last season, with Little Nippers embracing the chance to participate, have fun and experience surf sports in a competitive carnival environment. This event is also a great way to prepare competitors for the coming SunSmart WA Little Nippers Championships, to be held in March.
A big thank you to all officials, youth officials, Coogee Beach SLSC Water Safety personnel and clubs involved for ensuring the event ran smoothly, and a big congratulations to all the little nipper participants who gave it their best.

If your little nipper is excited to participate in another little nipper event before the championships in March at Sorrento Beach (program here), there are two events coming up:
- There will be little nipper events integrated into the SunSmart Country Carnival, to be held at Smiths Beach on Saturday, 25 January. Program here.
- SunSmart Little Nipper Carnival Rd 2 will be on Sunday, 9 February at Leighton Beach – Program here.
Registrations for both these events are via your club.
