After an epic two weekends of action in the pool Fremantle Surf Life Saving Club have been crowned Champion Club at the 2018 SunSmart WA Pool Rescue Championships!

The first weekend saw senior athletes take to the pool with Trigg Island Surf Life Saving Club coming away with what looked to be an insurmountable lead of nearly 100 points over their nearest rivals, aided by outstanding performances from both Callan Smith and Chalise Pratt who finished the weekend with four individual gold medals apiece.

Tied for second place were Fremantle and North Cottesloe, with Fremantle athletes Kelton Rothnie and Tupou Chong Sue also turning in outstanding performances pocketing four individual gold each, while Sorrento Surf Life Saving Club finished the weekend still in podium contention.

Masters and nippers competitors hit the water this past weekend for days 2 and 3 of competition, which saw Trigg Island have their lead cut to just 16 points over Fremantle heading into the final day of competition, while Sorrento kicked things up a gear overtaking North Cottesloe to start Day 3 in third.

Day 3 saw the battle continue as Trigg Island and Fremantle vied for first place, while North Cottesloe & Sorrento continued to battle it out for the final podium spot.

Noteworthy performances from Trigg Island’s Daniel Beales (u12) and Fremantle’s Jack Della-Marta (u13) with three individual gold medals each, and North Cottesloe’s Adam Moore’s (40/over) 4 individual gold, meant it was down to the wire, before Fremantle finally clinched victory over Trigg in second and North Cottesloe in third.

Special mention also to Ebony Millar and Charlee Jory, Yanchep’s only competitors who took bronze in U/13 female line throw.

Thanks to all officials and volunteers who ensured events ran smoothly across the two weekends, and to our naming rights partner Healthway, promoting the SunSmart Message.
