Lifesavers come from all walks of life. Whether on the beach, in the office, or, most importantly, in the home, it is critical that you know what to do if and when a first aid emergency arises.
It may seem obvious to say that none of us want to place our family at risk – the very idea of our family environment being a potential site of danger is deeply concerning for all of us. Our homes should be sanctuaries of protection and shelter – spaces to raise our families in confidence that their well-being and safety are cared for at all times.
However, the reality is our home environments do house potential risk factors. Whether it’s a pool, car, play equipment, furniture, stairs, kitchen utensils, skirting etc., all pose some form of risk to the individual.
If you are not prepared and ready for a first aid emergency in your own home, then you may in fact be increasing this very risk of danger in your household.
For instance, if you found a loved one unresponsive in the family home, would you be confident to know what to do next? Do you first administer CPR? Check for vital signs? Call an ambulance? Your initial response is critical. If you’re not sure, then a Surf Life Saving WA Home Lifesavers course is a must.
SLSWA Home Lifesaver first aid courses
A SLSWA Home Lifesavers first aid course (also known as Family First Aid), has been designed to provide parents, family members and friends with essential lifesaving skills and knowledge that may be required throughout the home. Home Lifesavers courses provide family members with basic first aid knowledge for those unforeseen accidents.
Our Home Lifesavers courses are designed for family and community groups and run for a duration of two hours.
Our Home Lifesaver first aid courses can cover first aid criteria such as:
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Choking
- Asthma
- Anaphylaxis and allergies
- Fractures, sprains and strains
- Bites and stings
The program also covers the delicate practice of administering first aid to young children and infants. This infant first aid course component is an essential part of the Home Lifesaver program, and an invaluable and rewarding skill-set in family first aid training.
The Home Lifesavers course can be delivered at your preferred/requested location, including your own home, and can be tailored to address your specific household environment’s needs and concerns.
