Member First Aid Courses

As a member of Surf Life Saving WA, you have access to a range of benefits including FREE first aid training. The only requirement to access this training is that you are a current financial member of a Western Australian Surf Life Saving Club!

To register for a course:

  • Email Training with your SLSWA Member ID to receive the discount code, then
  • Select a location and course date and fill in your personal details

Duration – 1 day

This first aid course provides the knowledge and practical skills to respond to a wide range of emergency situations, including injuries, illnesses and life-threatening events. It prepares you to provide effective first aid in the workplace or community until medical help arrives.

Course Content

During this course you will learn how to:

  • recognise and respond to emergency situations
  • perform CPR and use an AED
  • manage unconscious casualties
  • control bleeding and manage shock
  • provide first aid for burns, fractures, asthma and allergic reactions
  • communicate incident details and complete an incident report.

Assessment and Course Requirements

Learners must participate in practical assessment activities to demonstrate first aid skills.

Where a blended delivery option is offered, learners must complete the required online learning prior to attending the face-to-face practical session.

Practical assessment includes simulated emergency scenarios and demonstrating CPR and first aid techniques.

Participants must be able to participate in the practical assessment activities required by the unit of competency.

Certification

Successful participants will receive the following nationally recognised units of competency:

  • HLTAID011 Provide first aid
  • HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support
  • HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

A USI is required before certification can be issued.

Certificates are normally issued within 10 working days of successful completion.

Validity

This course is generally refreshed every three (3) years in line with industry and workplace expectations.

Regular CPR refresher training is encouraged to maintain skills and confidence in responding to emergencies.

Some workplaces or industries may require more frequent refresher training.
