Air Crew

As Air Crew, I am responsible for working with the pilot and my fellow Air Crew or Rescue Crew to conduct scheduled surveillance patrols looking for and taking action in response to different types of coastal hazards. I am responsible for safely dispatching rescue equipment or a Rescue Crew from the helicopter in response to an incident. I am also involved in ensuring we are “rescue ready” at all times in the event of tasking.

I primarily work on the South West Service.

Favourite WA Beach?

Leighton Beach

Favourite holiday destination and why?

I’m incredibly lucky to call both West Australia and West Cornwall, U.K. home. I always feel grateful when I’m spending time on either coast and spending time with my friends and family in both countries.

What inspired you to join the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter Service?

I’ve worked for Surf Life Saving WA as a lifeguard since 2011. Working as a part of the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter Service seems like an extension of that and it has been really great to get my teeth stuck into some fresh training and additional responsibilities. It’s a very visible service and its a great honour to continue to contribute to safe beaches up and down the coast.

What motivates you to work for the service and help the community?

I draw a lot of satisfaction from helping keep the public safe at the beach. Growing up on the coast of the U.K, I was always in awe of the local volunteer lifeboat crew working for the RNLI. Being part of the helicopter crew here in WA has really helped me feel part of the local community. I’ve grown up as a surfer and the beach is a huge part of my make up as a person. Being able to work and play in that environment means the world to me.

What’s your hidden talent?

I’m a keen writer – I’ve been fortunate to have had my work in publications such as the Australian newspaper and a variety of surf publications.

Do you have any aspirations in aviation?

To stay safe and keep my team safe.

If you were stranded on an island what three things would you bring with you?

I think the AS350 helicopter we operate with for the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter Service would be a good start! Following that path of reasoning I would also need a pilot and fuel.
