Known as the access point to Penguin Island. Making the crossing by foot across the sandbar is not advised.

My Beach

The general low waves and shallow sands between the island and mainland, tempt many to make the dangerous crossing via the sandbar.

Advice from the Department of Parks & Wildlife is to not walk across the sandbar to Penguin Island. Strong rips and currents can occur. Visitors to the area need to remember that water depth and conditions change rapidly. People have drowned attempting this crossing.

Mersey Point features a kiosk, visitor’s centre and gift shop and is the departure point for the Penguin Island Ferry and for boat tours of the Shoalwater Islands Marine Park.
