The commitment of our volunteers is apparent by the time they dedicate to ensure the association is able to perform at the highest level possible, ensuring the ongoing safety of our beaches. These volunteers are passionate members who are responsible for the continuation of positive social, educational, recreational and sporting opportunities for the wider community.
Individual Officers are appointed from time to time and are authorized under Part VI of the SLSWA Constitution and specifically Para 28. Individual Officers carry out duties and functions determined by the Council or Board, and when necessary may co-opt the services of other personnel to assist in their functions. Volunteers endure their services through different capacities including and not limited to:
Training Consultants
Training Consultants provide information and advice to designated clubs regarding training and assessing matters and implement quality management systems. Current SLSWA Training Consultants are:
- Celia Waugh – Great Southern (Esperance-Goldfields, Albany, Denmark, Broome).
- Phillip Brewer – South West (Margaret River, Dalyellup, City of Bunbury, Binningup, Busselton)
- Larry Tilbury – Peel (Secret Harbour, Mandurah, Port Bouvard, Coogee Beach, Fremantle)
- Trevor Gibb – South Metro (Cottesloe, North Cottesloe, Swanbourne-Nedlands)
- Ric Lovett – Central Metro (City of Perth, Floreat, Scarboro, Trigg Island)
- Anne-Marie Widermanski – North Metro (Sorrento, Mullaloo, Quinns-Mindarie, Yanchep, Broome)
- Eddy Saunders – Mid West (Dongara-Denison, Geraldton, Champion Bay)
Surfcom Training Coordinator
Anne-Marie Widermanski is responsible for overseeing the effective delivery of training programs for radio controllers to increase the number of Training Officers and Assessors for the Radio Controller awards. Solid foundations in training and education of new and existing radio controllers, increase manning levels and effectiveness of the communication service provided by Surfcom.
Chief Medical Officer
Dr Ron Naylor provides advice to SLSWA on matters relating to live saver health, safety, medical aspects of lifesaver activity and medical aspects of competition. He also provides advice and guidance to specific project issues that are contained within the SLSWA strategic and business/operational plans and in particular the review of international, national and state policy.
First Aid Officer
John Kitts provides advice to SLSWA on matters relating to first aid treatment, equipment, facilities and medical aspects of competition. He also provides advice and guidance to specific project issues that are contained within the SLSWA strategic and business/operational plans.
State Team Coaches
The appointed State Team Coaches for 2009/10 are Rick Turner (water), Brett Slocombe (beach) and Rebecca Cohen (Pool).
In accordance with the State Team Selection Policy, the state team coaches are responsible for the selection of the 2010 Western Suns State Team. The coaches will also plan and implement pre-championships training sessions, attend meets and report to the Sports and Events Coordinator on conclusion of the Interstates Championships.
Lifesaving Committee
The Lifesaving committee develops, monitors and reviews standards, policy and procedures relating to water safely, patrols, training and assessment. The committed comprises of Mr Renato Bruno(Chairman), Ms Barbara Carter, Mr Kevin Dugiud, Mr Tim Tucak, Mr Gavin Pascoe, Mr Chris Peck and Mr Matt du Plessis.
Sports Committee
The Sports committee comprises of: Mr Craig Smith- Gander (Chairperson), John Motteram, Bob Welch, Carol Gibbs, Evan Shapley, Carlo Tenaglia, and Leigh Buchan.
Development Committee
The committee comprises of: Ann Fenton (Chairperson), Mark Fenton, David Andrew, David Armstrong, Mick Girando, and Katie Redbond.
Education Advisory Committee
