The Surf Life Saving WA State team – the Western Suns, did WA proud and finished in third position in the ocean/beach events at the 2010 SLSA Interstate Championships.

The Interstate Championships were held on Sunday 24th January (Pool events) and on Monday 25th January (Ocean/Beach events). The ocean/beach events were held at Collaroy Beach in NSW.

In the ocean and beach events WA took it up to surf sports power states Queensland and New South Wales. WA did well to finish in third position behind NSW, QLD and ahead of Victoria, South Australia, the Northern Territory and Tasmania.

Some individuals performed very well including Tom Nolan who won both the Open Male Sprint and Open Male Flags at the interstates (having also won the sprint and flags at the Freshwater carnival on the 26th and the sprint at the Manly carnival on the 23rd). Sean Hill won the U/17 Beach Sprint, WA took out the Open Beach Relay and Open Lifesaver Relay. WA athletes also finished second in a range of events including Rebecca Browne, Tegan Maffescioni, Gabrielle Murphy, Sophie Markham, Dan Humble. Clancy Bradshaw and the U/17 Female Board Race team.
