WA’s junior surf sports athletes will converge on Scarborough beach this weekend (12th January) for round two of the Surf Life Saving WA Junior Carnival series.
The SLSWA Junior Carnivals are events where junior surf lifesavers put into practice what they have learnt during the Sunday morning nipper programs that have been running since before Christmas. This weekend is round two of competition in the series and over 800 nippers are expected to compete.
The weekend gives nippers the opportunity to hone their skills ahead of the Junior State Championships qualifier in round three. The 2012 Junior State Championships will be held at Fremantle’s Leighton Beach on the 10th and 11th of March.

Fun in the sun: Over 800 nippers are expected to converge on Scarborough beach this weekend for the second junior carnival of the season.
Key events include:
- Board Rescue Race
- Board Relay
- Surf Swim Race
- Ironman / Ironwoman
- Beach Sprint Relay
- Beach Sprints
“Round one of the junior carnivals was just an introduction to Surf Life Saving competition for many of the nippers and they would have taken a lot away from the carnival and learnt how surf sports events are run.
“This weekend’s round should see a lot of improvement in the nipper’s skill and fitness and I’m sure all athletes would be hoping to improve on their round one results,” said Surf Life Saving WA Sports Development Officer Patrick Allin.
