Conference Q & A

Below is a list of the questions posted on the Question Board at the conference.

We are reviewing/researching the answers and will post as soon as they are confirmed.

Do you have a question that isn't on this page???? Send the question to: kbarker@mybeach.com.au and we will find the answer...

Q. Can we have an “email alert” when changes of new items added to Mybeach Education section? – Julie BPSLSC

A. Member Education updates will be added to the Mybeach Email sent out weekly from Tuesday 21st September. We are also looking at developing a Member Education specific email newsletter to be sent out ad hoc.

Q.       Is there an RPL process required for ARC & Defib to then give ARTC once trained in suction? – Julie BPSLSC

A. Please refer to the Training, Assessing & Proficiency Guidelines with regards to the ARC to ARTC requirements. As per SLSA Circular (August 2010) Award Changes - Season 2010/2011 All ARC holders who complete a 2010/2011 proficiency that includes defibrillation and suction will be awarded the ARTC within their Sufguard Profile.

Q.      SRCs upgrading to Bronze – Is there an RPL Process in place to explain less training sessions recorded in the bronze workbook “training checklist” – Julie BPSLSC

A. As there is no Units of Competency attached to the SRC course, there is not the ability to RPL. All training sessions in the Bronze Medallion course should be addressed, even though candidates already have their SRC. These sessions should be used as refreshers i.e. OHS etc.

Q.     SLSWA as an RTO need to accept responsibility for administration. It should not be up to clubs to keep registers of correspondence as evidence something has been submitted.

A. SLSWA (Member Education) does record and accepts responsibility for all correspondence/evidence that has been received at the office. SLSWA is unable to accept responsibility for any correspondence/evidence that has been lost in transit between the beach and the office. As with all business correspondence, it is recommended that clubs keep detailed records of who/how documents are sent/received to allow ease of tracking in the case of missing post etc.

We strongly recommend that course evidence is NOT handed over at the beach, and all documents are either posted through the Club Administration or personally delivered and receipted through SLSWA Reception (no drop and run). SLSWA can provide a document recording slip (will be available for download shortly) if your Club does not have one.

Candidates should always keep a copy of any evidence that has been submitted for their records. SLSWA does not provide copies of evidence.

Q. Are there new ARC guidelines yet?

A. The ARC award is no longer issued and has been replaced by ARTC. Guidelines and information regarding proficiency and upgrading can be found in the Training, Assessment & Proficiency Guidelines booklet located on the Guidelines webpage in this section. Further information can also be found by viewing the SLSA Proficiency Requirements Circluar on the national website - www.slsa.com.au

Q. IRB Theory test online?

A. The IRB Theory test is currently unavailable through the online format. This suggestion will be reviewed as a viable option for IRB Driver candidates. SLSWA will undertake research into the possibility of adding this to the Online Learning Tool and keep Clubs updated via the website and newsletters.

Q. With the online bronze training the T/O could not gain access to the students page which showed how many units they had completed – Has this been fixed – Mark TRIGG

A. This issue with the Gradebook was realised upon initial release of the Online Learning Tool. This has been fixed in the current version and Trainers should be able to review and print student results. This should not be an issue with the upgraded system once released in October.
