Children from Ngalangangpum Catholic School, Warman Community
The program involves experienced and highly qualified surf lifesavers travelling to regional Western Australia armed with beach signs, safety flags and rescue tubes, delivering an interactive 45 to 60 minute education session. The presentation attempts to increase awareness of the risks associated with the surf and local waterways, as well as ways to minimise these risks. While the program focuses primarily on beach safety, it also touches upon general aquatic safety skills to ensure children are safe in their own backyards.
The Telstra Beach to Bush program has strong support and recognition from education departments as a quality curriculum addition for all participating students, and the media continues to give significant attention to the program.
